IMEC  -  Interuniversity Micro-Electronics Center

IMEC (Inter-university MicroElectronics Center) was founded in 1984 and today is Europe's largest independent research center in the field of microelectronics, nanotechnology, enabling design methods and technologies for ICT systems. IMEC's activities concentrate on the design technology for integrated information and communication systems; silicon process steps and modules, silicon processes; nanotechnology, microsystems, alternative devices and packaging; solar cells; and advanced training in microelectronics. IMEC is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and has a staff of more than 1300 people including over 400 industrial residents and guest researchers. Its revenue in 2005 of more than 200 Meuro was derived from agreements and contracts with the Flemish government, equipment and material suppliers and semiconductor and system-oriented companies worldwide, the EC, MEDEA+ and ESA. News from IMEC is located at www.IMEC.be

IMEC co-operates very closely with world-leading companies and research centers all over the world. The financial support of the Flemish Government allows IMEC to perform strategic, own internal research and to build background information. Such background information is the basis for co-operation with industrial partners allowing them to optimise the cost and time-to-market of R&D projects. Further, IMEC performs education and training of experts in the field of microelectronics through its microelectronics training center. Many training courses are organised annually in the field of chip design, process technology and related domains. Finally, IMEC co-operates closely with the Flemish universities to employ the available competence as optimally as possible, on research and development as well as on training.

Two divisions of IMEC will be involved in the STIMESI project :

  • INVOMEC : responsible for training
  • The Microsystems, Components and Packaging division : responsible for the development of the technologies, processes and tools that will be provided as training material in the frame of the STIMESI project.
